Automation Engineer 

Industry leading consumer products company is seeking an Automation Engineer to lead controls and automation projects at the company's state of the art manufacturing site outside Hartford, CT.  The Automation Engineer will be site subject matter expert on manufacturing automation equipment and control systems and also work on updating site's IT systems.  Additionally the Automation Engineer will:
  • Provide strategic vision and execution for automation and IT systems.
  • Help define new engineering standards
  • Develop new approaches and solutions to improve efficiency
  •  Support new equipment installations and optimization of existing equipment.
  • Evaluate plant IT needs
  • Implement and maintain computer-based information systems.
  • Evaluate plant IT needs and make recommendations to corporate IT and site  engineering manager for hardware, software, peripherals, etc., This will include capital budgets
  • Perform the implementation and maintenance of computer-based information systems
  • Develop and manage or participate in capital projects up to $1,000,000
  • Support advanced troubleshooting, maintenance and / or repair of the plants computer driven controls systems, plant mechanical and electromechanical equipment in conjunction with maintenance personnel
  • Identify and implement training and resources needed for maintenance personnel. 

  • Bachelor's degree; preferably in electrical engineering, automation, computer science
  • 5+ years experience with high-speed automation, robotics and VFD’s.
  • Proficient with Allen Bradley PLC and HMI programming, Cognex vision systems, Fanuc and ABB robotics.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel
  • Project management experience including estimation, equipment specifications, project approvals, vendor selection and management, equipment installations startup and training.
  • Working knowledge of Auto Cad
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office - MS Office, Microsoft Project - MS Project
  • Strong communications and analytical skills and a track record of accomplishment in managing multiple competing priorities
