Our client, a leading Designer of equipment used in the energy industry and has announced a fantastic new product that has taken the energy industry by storm and new orders have been above expectations. The market for this product has exploded. Consequently, they have commissioned Sterling St. James, LLC to source, screen and qualify candidates for their assembly operations. This Mechanical Engineer will have broad responsibilities in the overall design and production of this new product.

OVERVIEW
The successful candidate will be responsible for the designing the structures, Thermal controls and electrical connections that contain tremendous amounts of energy testing, and packaging the products.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Define battery systems requirements and derive mechanical requirements
  • Design electrical systems including structure, electrical interfaces and thermal subsystems
  • Model and empirically verify the thermal behavior of battery systems
  • Support failure modes effects and safety hazard analysis
  • Be “hands on” in the job function to help train coworkers as needed
  • Support manufacturing and quality engineering to develop assembly and test processes
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
  • Bachelors and or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred
  • 2 plus years’ experience preferred.
  • Must be able to adapt and learn quickly
  • Conduct analytical and finite element analysis “FEA” of the behavior of the system
  • Support vendors. including plastics modeling, machining, sheet metal forming, stamping, welding extrusion, casting, and 3D printing to ensure delivery of high-quality low-cost parts.
  • Experience in lithium ion batteries or high power is a plus
  • Ability to define system requirements both electrical and mechanical
  • Work independently or with a team
  • Must be a quick learner and have a desire to continue to learn new things
  • Always looking for ways to improve product and/or processes and procedures (continuous improvement)
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Excellent communication skills:

    • Verbal
  • Good interpersonal skills (ability to get along well with team members and other departments) Ability to interact with engineers, technicians, production personnel, and others regarding testing procedures and results and to resolve problems as they arise.
