Senior PCB Design Engineer
The Sr. PCB Design Engineer is responsible for Printed Circuit Board design and layout functions as required by product development teams. Using high-end PCB CAD tools and following established industry guidelines for signal integrity, reliability, and manufacturability, this individual will assist other engineers in the development of complex designs for use in demanding environments. This role includes duties in PCB design, layout, validation, process, and support, and requires a person with significant technical background, relevant experience, and excellent communication skills.  Candidate must be able to work as a team member with minimal supervision under direction of a lead engineer.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Detailed development and documentation of complex printed circuit boards conforming to applicable IPC and industry standards.
  • Work from preliminary schematics, parts lists, and basic functional description as provided by the design team.
  • Provide guidance to internal and third-party engineers as needed to optimize the design with respect to PCB layout, including constraints, manufacturability, and relative costs of various alternatives.
  • Complete placement and layout of PCB designs using Cadence Allegro PCB Editor v17.2.
  • Perform other E-CAD functions including schematic capture, mechanical footprints, parts library management, and board revisions as needed.
  • Generate all documentation required for release and production of PCB designs (ODB++.)
  • Interface with Contract Manufacturers, PCB vendors, and others as needed to resolve technical issues.
  • Assist with maintaining departmental procedures, standards, and guidelines.
  • Assist with system management including file maintenance, backup, and storage.
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering and 7 years PCB design experience in a high reliability environment; Minimum of 3 years recent experience using latest Cadence Allegro PCB tools. Associates Degree and 10 years of experience in lieu of Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Complete understanding of the PCB layout process with extensive knowledge of IPC Standards; IPC Certification of CID/CID+ strongly preferred.
  • Experience with high density layout and multilayer boards, controlled impedance traces, RF transmission lines, etched antennas, grounding techniques, high speed digital, BGA’s, power supplies, etc.
  • Technical understanding of electrical and mechanical aspects of printed circuit board design, fabrication, and assembly.
  • Experience with mechanical constraints, including mounting PCB’s in plastic housings.
  • Experience with parts nomenclature, part number structure, and the revision process for PCB assemblies.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Excellent communications skills in oral and written English language.
  • Excellent organization and interpersonal skills.
Additional Preferred Experience:
  • Knowledge of database tools for integrating PLM functions into layout tool software.
  • Basic component engineering including part parameters, specifications, etc.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring less experienced PCB designers.
